McCants Breaks Out, Scores 38 Points
No matter if you were sitting courtside at Target Center or watching from your couch on FS North, it was easy to see the potential oozing from Minnesota's second round pick in 2009, Rashanda McCants. Athleticism, check; Tenacious defender, check; Pretty jumpshot, check… Although her first year in the pros was by in large up and down, McCants flashed her potential many times throughout her rookie season and seems to have carried her late season success and confidence with her to Israel.
Playing in the same league that 2008 rookies Nicky Anosike and Charde Houston did last winter, McCants has seemingly made a smooth transition from play in the States to play overseas.
McCants' first test came in a preseason tournament, and she passed with flying colors. McCants averaged a team-high 25.0 points per game as her team went 2-1 to claim third place.
McCants and Elizur Holon opened up League play last Monday with a 72-62 victory over Maccabi Tel Kabir. McCants contributed a team-high 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
In her most recent effort on Monday, McCants tallied 38 points (15-22 FG) - a league-high for the season - in Holon's 87-79 road victory over Hapoel Tel Aviv. McCants also chipped in 10 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks and 1 assist.
McCants will look to continue her recent success next Monday when Elizur Holon takes on ASA Jerusalem in Round 3.
