Lynx All-Star CentralIt’s the All-Star game, folks. Going in, you have got to expect an exciting, high-scoring contest where superstars shine.
It was.
Swin Cash led all scorers with 21, Rebekkah Brunson added 20, but the West was edged 118-113 by the East in a Texas shootout.

The league celebrated its fifteenth anniversary with a memorable halftime ceremony that honored the greatest players in WNBA history. But these basketball legends in attendance were not just there to be rewarded; they were there to witness the plethora of new talent that has garnered nation-wide attention.
“With those legends watching, it’s a lot of pressure, you know,” Seimone Augustus said. “You look at those women and think about the things that they’ve done for us, we’re here because of the things that they did. You always want to put on a great show for them and let them know that the league is in good hands with this new generation.”
Under the bright lights of All-Star weekend, the rising stars of today were impressive and successfully assured the WNBA greats that league is, in fact, in “good hands.”
“I think we’ve got a good variety of players, from young to older players that have been around here for awhile like [Sue] Bird and Diana [Taurasi],” Augustus said. “Today was just a great showing of the WNBA, and you got to see international players as well, so we took a big step forward as far as getting the recognition that we deserved and the respect that we need.”
The Minnesota Lynx were one squad in particular that earned the recognition that was deserved by having four All-Star representatives in San Antonio. Lindsay Whalen, Maya Moore, Brunson, and Augustus shared a special moment to open the fourth quarter together on the court at the same time.
“It was an unbelievable feeling,” Augustus exclaimed. “It was like OK, four Lynx players on the court…we were thinking like, it’s time to show everybody what we can do, and try to show some amazing things on the court. But for me, it was like a sigh of relief like ‘oh my gosh’ we finally made it like we’ve arrived as a team. When we have four players on the same court at the All-Star game, you know, it’s a big deal.”
One WNBA legend that took extraordinary notice of the Minnesota Lynx All-Star play was Dawn Staley. While courtside commentating, Staley expressed gratitude towards the Western Conference point guard Lindsay Whalen; saying the Lynx floor general is the very best at her position in the league.
“It’s a huge honor. She’s [Dawn Staley] a player that I’ve looked up to for years, so to have her say that, it is just a really high honor,” Whalen expressed. “I just don’t know what to say, it’s really cool.”
With one half of the season down and one to go, expect the Minnesota Lynx All-Stars to continue representing the new generation of female ballers admirably.
