Minnesota Lynx Sign Center Petra Ujhelyi

Minneapolis/St. Paul - The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team has signed free-agent center Petra Ujhelyi. Per team policy, no financial terms of the agreement were disclosed.

Ujhelyi (6-4, 200) was selected by the Phoenix Mercury in the second round (16th overall) of the 2003 WNBA Draft. She was traded by Phoenix along with Telisha Quarles to the Detroit Shock for Edwina Brown and Lenae Williams on April 28, 2003. She averaged 0.3 ppg and 0.9 rpg in 14 games played with Detroit in 2003.

She did not appear in any games during the 2004 WNBA season before being waived by the Mystics on June 29.

Ujhelyi, a native of Hungary, played four seasons at the University of South Carolina, averaging 8.3 ppg (.439 FG%), 7.0 rpg, 2.2 apg and 1.2 bpg. As a senior, she finished as the Southeastern Conference’s leading rebounder at 9.3 rpg and broke the University of South Carolina record for defensive rebounds in a season with 198.
