Lynx Sign Center Katryna Gaither

The Minnesota Lynx announced Wednesday that the team has signed center Katryna Gaither. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Katryna brings a strong physical presence and depth to our center position," Lynx Chief Operating Officer Roger Griffith said. "In addition to her rebounding and scoring in the paint, she brings many years of international and WNBA experience to our young roster."

Gaither, 31, has been one of the top players in the post overseas for the past several seasons. In the 2006-07 season, she averaged 14.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals for Dexia Namur (Belgium) of the Euroleague. She was fourth in the league in rebounding and was third with five double-doubles in 13 contests. Gaither, 6-3 and 170 lbs, was selected to the 2007 Euroleague All-Star Game and responded with 14 points and 10 rebounds, the only double-double of the tilt and the game's top rebounding figure.

Playing with Tarbes in the French league from 2004 through 2006, Gaither has posted averages of 14.3 ppg, 14.4 ppg and 15.0 ppg. Tarbes qualified for the international Euroleague competition in 2005 and 2006, and she averaged 17.6 and 14.9 points, respectively. Her numbers on the boards over that time include 9.9 rpg in the 2006 Europe Cup and 8.2 rpg in the 2003-04 season.

In addition to her international experience, the Notre Dame alum has played in the ABL with San Jose and the WNBA with Utah, Indiana, Los Angeles and Washington. Gaither averaged 16.6 points and 7.7 rebounds in her career at Notre Dame and helped the team advance to the 1997 Final Four.

"We've been very impressed with what Katryna has accomplished overseas," Lynx Head Coach Don Zierden said. "We're happy to add her to our post rotation; she'll be a great fit with our club."
