Lynx Activate Guard Nuria Martinez

Team Places Forward Kristen Mann on Injured List & Releases Guard Susan King Borchardt
Minneapolis/St. Paul - The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team has activated guard Nuria Martinez and has placed forward Kristen Mann on the Injured List (left foot anterior tibialis tendonitis). The team also announced it has released guard Susan King Borchardt.

Martinez, who has not appeared in a game in 2005 after being placed on the Injured List on May 20 with a plantar fascia tear left foot, will be making her first appearance in a Lynx uniform tonight at Charlotte. Originally claimed off waivers from Sacramento on May 19, 2004, Martinez was immediately placed on the Injured List (strained hamstring) before being transferred to the Suspended List on July 19.

Martinez has played professionally the past two seasons in Spain for Perfumerias Avenida, and averaged 12.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg and 3.1 apg in 26 contests in 2004-05. The 5-9 guard also was a member of the Spanish National Team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, where she averaged 4.5 ppg and 1.7 rpg in six games.

Mann, the Lynx’ first-round pick (11th overall) from UC Santa Barbara, is averaging 1.6 ppg and 1.4 rpg in 6.1 mpg. The 6-2 forward has appeared in 10 games for Minnesota in 2005. Per league rules, she must remain on the Injured List a minimum of three games.

King Borchardt appeared in three games for the Lynx this season and averaged 1.0 ppg in 17 minutes of action. King Borchardt had two stints on the Injured List this season with Minnesota, most recently on June 22 with plantar fasciitis in her left foot. She started the year on the Injured List with the same injury, missing the first six games of the 2005 campaign.

The Lynx (8-7) visit the Charlotte Sting tonight at 6 p.m. CST, the team’s last game before this weekend’s WNBA All-Star Break. Tonight’s game will be broadcast on KLBB-AM 1400.
