Lynx Hire Carolyn Jenkins as Assistant Coach

April 25, 2003 The Lynx today announced the hiring of Carolyn Jenkins as the team's assistant coach. Jenkins, who brings 11 years of collegiate basketball coaching experience including stints with two of the top programs in the country, joins head coach Suzie McConnell Serio and assistant coach Nancy Darsch on the Lynx' coaching staff. Per team policy, terms of Jenkins' contract were not announced.

Jenkins, 34, started her coaching career as an assistant coach on Tara VanDerveer's staff at Stanford University. During her time at Stanford (1991-92 through 1994-95), the team reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament each season, made two Final Four appearances and won an NCAA National Championship (1991-92). In her four-year coaching stint, Stanford won three Pacific 10 Conference titles, and two of the Cardinal's recruiting classes were ranked in the top five in the nation.

From 1995-96 to 1999-2000, Jenkins served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Michigan State. The Spartans finished 22-8 and won the Big Ten Conference championship during the 1996-97 campaign. Jenkins spearheaded a recruiting class that was ranked among the top 25 in the country three consecutive seasons (1997-98 through 1999-00).

The past three seasons, Jenkins has served as the head coach at Sacramento State University (2000-01 through 2002-03). In addition to her collegiate coaching, Jenkins has been involved with USA Basketball. She served as a scout and floor coach for the USA Basketball Senior National Team (1994) and a floor coach for the USA Basketball Pan American Team (1993).

Jenkins, a member of both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the Black Coaches Association, was elected into the Fresno (Calif.) Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. She was the 1986 Central Section Player of the Year at San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno after winning championships in volleyball, basketball and softball. Jenkins graduated with an economics degree from the University of California - Berkeley (1990), where she played in 104 career basketball games in four seasons with the Bears (1986-1990).
