Get Ready for the 2010 WNBA Draft Lottery

The 2010 WNBA Draft Lottery is tomorrow and your Minnesota Lynx are guaranteed two of the top five selections. To get you ready for tomorrow, we've broken down some of the key points.

  • The 2010 WNBA Draft Lottery will take place on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. CST via conference call.

  • The Lynx possess their own selection - slotted third overall - as well as New York's first-round pick - slotted second overall - courtesy of a multi-team trade on May 5, 2008 between Minnesota, New York and Los Angeles.

  • The combined odds of obtaining the first pick in the draft from each selection add up to give the Lynx the best chance at securing the number one overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft, with 428 chances out of 1,000, eight more than Sacramento's 420.

  • Only two times in WNBA history has a team owned two selections in the top 5 of a specific draft: Detroit, 2003, 3 & 5; Washington, 2002, 3 & 4.

  • Notable No. 1 overall picks: 2009 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Angel McCoughtry (2009); 2008 WNBA MVP and Rookie of the Year, Candace Parker (2008); two-time WNBA All-Star Seimone Augustus (2006); 2009 WNBA MVP; Diana Taurasi (2004); US Olympian, Sue Bird (2002); Lauren Jackson (2001) and Chamique Holdsclaw (1999).

  • Notable No. 2 overall picks: Sylvia Fowles (2008), Cappie Pondexter (2006), Alana Beard (2004) and Swin Cash (2002).

  • Notable No. 3 overall picks: 2008 Sixth Woman of the Year, Candice Wiggins (2008); Nicole Powell (2004) and Tamika Catchings (2001).

  • Notable No. 4 overall picks: U.S. Olympian and three-time All-Star, DeLisha Milton-Jones (1999); All-Stars Asjha Jones (2002) and Sophia Young (2006).

  • Notable No. 5 overall picks: Sancho Lyttle (2005), Shameka Christon (2004) and Kara Lawson (2003).

  • This year marks Minnesota's fifth appearance in the nine-year history of the WNBA Draft Lottery. The Lynx have now appeared in five straight lotteries, after not participating in the first four.

  • The Lynx have selected first, once (2006 - Seimone Augustus) third, once (2008 - Candice Wiggins), fourth, twice (2007 - Noelle Quinn, 2009 - Renee Montgomery) and fifth, once (2000, Grace Daley). Minnesota has never selected second.

  • In the eight years of the current Draft Lottery system, the team with the best odds has won the top overall pick just three times (Atlanta in 2009, Los Angeles in 2008, Phoenix in 2004).
