Smith is a highly-skilled lefty post that can step out and shoot the three-pointer. Smith should be familiar to local fans, as she went to high school at Bloomington Kennedy. She gave up a chance at playing for the hometown Gophers to attend another a Big Ten rival, Illinois. At 6-3, Smith is an intimidating force down low with an ability to block a number of shots. A two-time All-Big Ten selection, Smith is Illinois' all-time leader in blocked shots.
Smith is on the 2009-10 Naismith Award, Wooden Award, Wade Trophy and Senior CLASS Award Watch Lists.
Coach Reeve's Thoughts
"Jenna is a skilled lefty, with the ability to score inside and away from basket." An Insider's Look
Tony Bleill, Daily Record"Jenna's best attribute on the court is a deft shooting touch out to 15 feet. That's also reflected in her work at the free throw line, where she's a career 80 percent shooter. On the low block, she is most effective when using her dribble to spin away from defenders and create the space required to get off her shot. She did all of this despite constant double-teams and frequent triple-teams, as she did not have the benefit of complementary offensive help from teammates for much of her time at Illinois. Though not an above-average leaper, she uses her instincts to be a prolific rebounder. She had a terrific senior season until suffering a hamstring injury in mid-January, which curtailed some of her production."
"Off the court, she has solid intangibles: She's committed to team success and is a hard worker. Though she has played the 5 spot at Illinois, she probably projects as a 4 in the WNBA. She is not a strong defender but has a knack for blocking shots, although that trait might not translate to the professional ranks. Jenna isn't as athletically gifted as some of her peers, which figures to limit her WNBA upside, but she strikes me as someone who can provide backup help. She is very close to her family, which still lives in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and I know she'd love to return home to play professionally."
