Player Bio
One of the all-time greats at Virginia, Monica Wright is an ultra-quick guard that can create her own shot at will, as well as spot up and shoot the three-pointer.

Wright recently surpassed Dawn Staley as Virginia's all time leading scorer, and is enjoying a tremendous senior season. Through February 7, the three-time Honorable Mention All-American is averaging 22.1 ppg. Also capable of dominating a game with her defense, Wright is averaging nearly four steals per game in 2010. She also set a new school record with 14 games of at least 25 points for her career, and holds the record for 22 games with at least 20 points scored.

In 2009, Wright was a Finalist for the Wade Trophy, Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award. Fans can expect Wright to be one of the first guards off the board in April's draft.
Coach Reeve's Thoughts
"Monica is a solidly built guard that can score in a variety of ways, best when pulling up for midrange jumpers; very good defender and very good rebounding guard."
An Insider's Look
Vic Dorr, Richmond Times-Dispatch

"She has blossomed not only as a player but also as an individual. Initially, I thought she was the kind of player who was most capable of scoring in transition or an open-court, scramble situation. She's lethal in that setting, but she has also added a nice halfcourt component to her game. She's a capable 3-point shooter and an effective scorer off the dribble. She is also the physical and emotional bulwark of the Virginia program. She carries that team, night in and night out. Early in Monica's career I wondered about her ability to shoulder responsibility of that nature. Those questions have long since been answered."

Mechelle Voepel, ESPN.com

"All the accolades don't really tell you what's so pleasing about seeing Monica Wright play. Watch her for even a little while, and you can guess why her parents might have once thought dance was a good fit for her. Wright moves on the basketball court the way Ginger Rogers used to move on the ballroom floor.."

Debbie Ryan, Virginia Head Coach

"Honestly, Monica is a player you don't have to motivate; she is intrinsically motivated. She's willing to do whatever we ask her. Play the point, play inside, it doesn't matter. She'll do it to the best of her ability and still outplay everybody else. She wants to be good at everything. The sky's the limit for her; she's so gifted athletically and so smart. But not afraid to admit that she doesn't know everything. She's a sponge in all areas of her life."
