Player Bio
Perhaps no collegiate senior has seen their draft stock rise through the course of the 2009-10 season as much as Nebraska Senior forward Kelsey Griffin. After sitting out the 08-09 season with a foot injury, Griffin has elevated her game to new heights, leading the Cornhuskers to a perfect 21-0 record through February 7. Griffin combines a vast array of low-post moves with an ability to shoot the three-ball to make a complete player on the offensive end.
Griffin is no slouch on the defensive end. She ranks as one of the best rebounders in the country this season, averaging 9.9 rebounds per game, to accentuate her 19.4 points per game. The 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist is capable of playing multiple positions, but is most comfortable playing power forward.
Coach Reeve's Thoughts
"Kelsey has a strong build, versatile scorer, very good defensive rebounder, extremely efficient scorer; scores in a variety of ways." An Insider's Look
Matt Coatney, Nebraska Play-by-Play"Kelsey Griffin has taken her game to another level this season. Quite simply, she worked on skill set to where she can now face the basket, step back and hit the three, take a guard off the dribble with power and get to the rim or invert to the block and post up. Her post-up game has always been superb, but now it's amazing. She cannot be guarded by one player on the block, no matter who it is. She constantly beats double-teams. She now routinely beats a triple-team in the post by throwing out to a cutter or a perimeter player who has spotted up on the wing. Griffin has even developed another post moves to which she actually scored against a quadruple-team this season from the low post. A tenacious rebounder. She refuses to be denied on the glass. Will fly in for the rebound, or out-technique or out-muscle. Whatever it takes to get the offensive or defensive board. Will pluck the rebound and take off down the floor for the coast-to-coast finish. The sky's the limit for Griffin as a WNBA prospect. She can easily handle the 2, 3 or 4 positions in the pros and can play the five in certain situations. A tough matchup for anyone due to her body type. Long and lean. Her mental makeup is unmatched. She wired to think that she will refuse to lose. Played her whole junior season of college with a cracked rib. Tough doesn't describe Griffin well enough. Toughness and will-to-win are clearly her biggest assests and the two charactersistics any pro team would absolutely love to have. If she finds consistency from the three-point line, her game will be air-tight complete. Griffin came in as a homesick kid from Alaska her freshman year to a smooth, polished, mature leader as a senior. She has carried her team to the first 20-0 record in school history and the talk of the world of women's basketball. Her poise, maturity, drive, intelligence, skill and tenacity make her a dream player for some team on the next level."

I'd vote for Nebraska's Kelsey Griffin as player of the year if ballots were due today.
Griffin is competitive in every individual regard [...] She's good; she's really good. She has remarkable body control with the ball in her hands, turning potential hard contact into glancing blows like the kind of running back they haven't had in Lincoln for a few years now. She finishes in traffic, almost always freeing her upper body to get a shot off cleanly.
