Name: Danielle McCray

Position: Guard-Forward
Class: Senior
School: Kansas
Player Bio
The 2010 preseason Big 12 Player of the Year, McCray is the do-it-all force behind Kansas’ rise to national prominence in 2010. That was until 20 games into the season when she suffered a torn acl in practice, forcing her to sit out the remainder of her Senior year and casting a cloud on her WNBA future.

Prior to that, McCray was putting up outstanding numbers in 2009-10, averaging nearly 20 points per game while shooting 41.7 percent from long distance. McCray’s greatest strength is her ability to shoot the three. Despite sitting out the final 10 games of the season, McCray connected on 48 three-pointers in 2010, an average of 2.4 per game.

The young Kansas squad has struggled since McCray went down, recording a 2-8 record its last 10 games of the season.

Despite the injury, McCray remains a solid prospect and is likely to be drafted come April.

Coach Reeve's Thoughts
"A very talented guard with an efficient offensive game, very good rebounder, will have to wait to prove her WNBA skills, recovering from an injury."
An Insider's Look
Chuck Woodling, Lawrence Journal World and News
“I think her greatest strength is her strength. Remember she was a state high school discus and shot put champion. Her second greatest strength is her shooting ability, notably from long range. Basically, she is a forward in a guard's body. If she were three inches taller, for example, she would be an all-world power forward who could step outside and hit the three.”

Kevin McGuff, Xavier Head Coach
“Danielle McCray is one of the best players in the country and she showed that tonight. She is very tough to match up against and she will help Kansas have a great year.”
