WNBA Fact
During the 2002 season, General Motors donated more than $50,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in honor of the Buick Player of the Game. Buick donates $1,000 for each nationally televised game throughout the regular season and playoffs. The Los Angeles Sparks led all teams with 11 Buick Player of the Game awards and the New York Liberty followed with 10.

"The WNBA concept remains a good one. It's not so much that women are playing. It's the idea of watching basketball being played below the rim. Most people can relate to that better than an NBA dunkfest.
"Plus, like regular folks, the WNBAers sometimes goof up layups or go ice cold from the foul line. Not too often, mind you, but enough to convince spectators that they are watching human beings.
"That's a good thing. In fact, it may be the WNBA's best attribute. From their play on the court to their emotions in the locker room, the performers come across as very real."
