WNBA Fact On April 24, 1996, the NBA Board of Governors approved the concept of a Women's National Basketball Association, to begin play in June 1997. 
Thursday, April 4, 2002Lynx Spotlight Lynx guard Kate Paye was named the California State High School Player of the Year (Division 5) for three consecutive years (1988-89 through 1990-91). Paye turned down offers from Dartmouth, Harvard and Princeton and attempted to earn a spot as a walk-on for the Stanford women's basketball team. As a freshman, Paye played on Stanford's NCAA Championship team and earned a scholarship the following year.
