WNBA Fact
Since the WNBA began with eight teams in 1997, eight expansion franchises
have been added (Minnesota, Detroit, Indiana, Miami, Orlando, Portland,
Seattle and Washington). In the four years since the inaugural year, only
one of the eight expansion teams has won its first two games during its
inaugural season. That team was the 1999 Minnesota Lynx, who opened the
season 2-0 with home victories over Detroit and Utah. The team's first loss
came against the defending champion Houston Comets on June 14 (69-55) at
Target Center.

"Will you be ready to play next year? What are you currently doing to keep your game at a top level? I would really like to see you shine this season considering you missed your chance last year. Be sure to be totally recovered from your injury. Keep working hard!!!"

Hi, Jess! Yes, I will be ready for the upcoming season. I've been working really hard to get my hip in good shape. I try to keep my game at the highest level by working out seven days a week. I don't take time off. I'm always thinking go, go, go, go! This is the time (the offseason) where I think I will get better so that is when I work the hardest. It makes me feel really good that fans were missing me and thinking about me last season! Thanks and God bless!

Quote of the Week
"We're exactly where we need to be. Being young, every team had a nucleus coming back except us. We were young, we had injuries that hurt us, we had a new system to learn — new players that had to learn it — and it's a shame it has to end now when we're just hitting our stride."
—Lynx forward Shanele Stires after Minnesota's 69-62 upset win over Utah in the 2001 regular season home finale on Aug. 12.
