Chronicles of Katie Vol. 5
July 5, 2005
Hi Lynx fans! Welcome to my summer diary. I’ll be sharing my thoughts with you all season long, so keep checking back each week.
After our trip out to Connecticut on Thursday, it was nice to get back and start enjoying the long Fourth of July weekend. It was fantastic that the weather held off for the entire weekend except for one storm, but that was in the middle of the night. I started off the weekend staying around basketball for a while by going to a dunk contest in South Minneapolis. The contests take place every Saturday and a couple of us have now judged three of them. Later that day I hit up Benihana, which is my favorite spot in Minneapolis; I just love the food there.
Sunday, we had practice of course, but after that some of the team went out to the Taste of Minnesota celebration. But I didn’t feel like being in the crowds so I had some friends over to my house to grill up some food. There were about eight of us and it was fun to hang out a little bit and let the dogs play with each other.
Monday we had another practice to get ready for Charlotte on Thursday. I didn’t go to any fireworks displays but some friends and I bought some of our own and went down to Loring Park to set them off. The festivities were cut a little short when the police came and asked us to stop but we came out of it without getting in any trouble.
There’s another WNBA All-Star Break coming up this weekend, although I can’t really call it a break since I will be playing. The rest of the team will have some nice time off. This is my fifth consecutive season that I’ve been selected as an All-Star. I feel very fortunate to be able to once again represent the Lynx during All-Star weekend, particularly since I’ve been rehabbing my knee for the last nine months. Even though it would be nice to have a break, I feel honored to have been selected among the best players in the WNBA. It should be a pretty fun weekend out in Connecticut. I expect the fans to come out in droves out east to take part in the event since they love women’s basketball so much out there. Hopefully I can get out there, play well, and have some fun while I’m at it.
