Lynx to Host Inaugural Catwalk for a Cure on Aug. 8
Lynx players will trade in their high tops and basketball uniforms for high heels and dresses on Saturday, Aug. 8 at the inaugural 'Catwalk for a Cure' event. The event, held in the Macy's Rotunda of the Mall of America, will raise funds for the Jean Stankoski and Minnesota Lynx Foundations, which aim to increase breast cancer funding and awareness in the state of Minnesota. The Catwalk for a Cure event is sponsored by The Melting Pot and KSTC-TV, Ch. 45.
"Breast health awareness is a cause that not only is near and dear to everyone's heart, but it is an initiative that the Minnesota Lynx organization has embraced throughout our 11-year history in the WNBA," said Conrad Smith, Lynx Chief Operating Office. "We are proud to host this family-friendly event that furthers our mission to raise funds in support of breast cancer education and awareness in the state of Minnesota."
From 1 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, the Lynx will transform the Macy's Rotunda of the Mall of America into a fashion show, featuring Lynx players and head coach Jen Gillom hitting the runway as they model the latest styles from some of the trendiest stores in Minneapolis. From 1 - 3:30 p.m., guests will be able to bid on memorabilia, experiences and gift cards at a silent auction. Items up for bid will include game-worn pink Lynx jerseys, which the players will wear Friday, August 7 as part of Breast Health Awareness Night. The fashion show will begin at 2:00 p.m. and last till 3:30 p.m. Lynx players and coaches will be available for autographs following the conclusion of the fashion show.
A ceremony will follow where the Lynx will celebrate this year's recipient of the $10,000 Jean Stankoski Scholarship, congratulate the 2008 Lynx Foundation grant recipient and honor a local woman for her outstanding spirit.

About the Jean Stankoski Scholarship Fund In the fall of 2006, longtime Timberwolves and Lynx employee Jean Stankoski lost her battle with breast cancer. Jean, a mother of two daughters, was an advocate for post-secondary education opportunities for all - volunteering as a scholarship selection committee member for many years. The Timberwolves and Lynx are proud to honor Jean with the founding of the Jean Stankoski Scholarship Fund. The fund will provide post-secondary education scholarships to Minnesota students directly impacted by breast cancer in his or her immediate family.
