Lynx center, Nicky Anosike, recorded the 100th steal in her young career Tuesday night in a victory over the New York Liberty. Anosike reached the milestone just 42 career games into her career, the fifth fastest any WNBA player has reached that mark.
Teresa Weatherspoon was the fastest to reach 100 steals after just 33 games, followed by Tamika Catchings in 35, Yolanda Griffith and Kim Perrot both in 38 career games.
Last season Anosike ranked second in the WNBA in steals with 2.2 per game. Her 75 steals were a Lynx franchise record, and tied the second most steals by a center. In eight games this season Anosike is averaging 3.4 steals (27 total) per game and is on pace to break her own franchise record.
Anosike has been playing well on the offensive end as well this season. In last week's loss to the Phoenix Mercury, Anosike recorded her sixth career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The week before, she took it to Lisa Leslie and the Los Angeles Sparks recording 16 points, six assists, five rebounds, five blocks and four steals in the Lynx win. If Anosike had recorded one more steal in the game against Los Angles, she would have been only the second player to ever record a "5x5" in the WNBA.
Overall on the season Anosike is averaging 11.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.5 assists The Lynx stand at 5-3 and are third in the WNBA Western Conference.
