BIRCH RUN, MICH., May 14, 2003 — The Lynx completed their 2003 preseason schedule with a 72-64 victory over the Detroit Shock on Wednesday night at the Birch Run Expo Center. Svetlana Abrosimova led the Lynx with 15 points and five rebounds, and Tamika Williams added 11 points in the win. Cheryl Ford topped the Shock with a game-high 21 points and six rebounds.

"Obviously, we feel good about the win," said Lynx head coach Suzie McConnell Serio. "I saw a lot of good things tonight. I can see how we have grown since the first day of training camp, and I can see the chemistry that we're starting to develop. Our goal is to continue to get better and be ready for the start of the regular season."

Minnesota, which led 39-31 at the half, built a lead as large as 16 points in the second half. Detroit rallied and cut the deficit to as little as five points with 36.4 seconds remaining. But Minnesota sealed the victory with four consecutive free throws by Williams and Carolyn Moos.

"This was definitely a step in the right direction," said Abrosimova. "I was impressed by the way we handled things. We played smarter, and I think everyone is starting to feel real comfortable. I'm looking forward to the regular season opener against Sacramento."

The win improved the Lynx' preseason record to 2-1, with both wins coming against Detroit. Minnesota defeated the Shock 86-72 on May 6 at Target Center.

Minnesota opens the 2003 regular season at Target Center on Saturday, May 24 against the Sacramento Monarchs. The team must finalize its 11-person roster by May 21.
