Lynx Coach Suzie McConnell Serio
"You can tell we've been without officials for the two weeks of training camp. We were very aggressive defensively and put them on the free throw line too many times. We also knew offensive execution and balance were key, and we showed that with five players in double figures."

"The players played with a lot of heart and desire. I am so proud of what we accomplished tonight because I know that when Katie Smith went down, there were so many people that counted us out and thought that this was their opportunity to make the playoffs, and for us to start off like this is huge. It definitely gives us confidence going into the last seven games."

Lynx Center Nicole Ohlde
"We were practicing without Katie for those two weeks, so we got a feel for each other and everybody learned their roles. It's tough without Katie. You can't replace her, but I think everybody is going to step up. It's not going to be one person. This team has something special. We're just going to step up and do what we can."

"We've had a break and not everyone has been playing. They had two Olympians that have been playing in August, but for the rest of us, we haven't really had a feel for the game, so it took a while to get the nerves out. But we came back in the second half and got that rhythm and rolled with it."

"We've all been working really hard. The reason I get some easy looks is because my teammates create that for me. They set good screens for me and give me excellent passes when I need them, so they are allowing the court to be spread and giving me easy shots."

"That's just the way the game goes. The referees see stuff we don't see sometimes, and that's just the way the game went. They were able to get to the free throw line a little more than us."

Lynx Guard Helen Darling
"They were giving me wide open shots. They were going under screens and I was just wide open for two to three seconds, so I had to shoot it. I'm looking to pass first, but once I start feeling it, there's no turning back."

"We didn't have Katie before we left for the break and we won two out of three games. I think during the break, everybody went home and really worked on their game because we knew we were going to have to step up. We just prepared for the worst, and the worst happened. We came back into training camp and played as a team. We had a great two weeks of practice."

Comets Coach Van Chancellor
"I've come from as big a high as you can have Saturday afternoon (Olympics gold medal game) to as big a low here as you can have. That's really a discouraging loss right there. We gave up 47 points in the second half. I can't remember the last time our team has given up 47 points (in one half). I thought we'd have taken the game. They didn't have Katie Smith; I just didn't think we defended them, and we just didn't play. We didn't do the things we needed to do. This is as discouraged as I've been as a Comets coach. I thought this was a winnable game."

"She (Helen Darling) made some big-time plays. She's beaten me twice. I thought Darling was the difference in the game. And we didn't guard Ohlde. Ohlde went over her right shoulder every time and we still haven't adjusted to that, not one time."

Comets Forward Sheryl Swoopes
"I definitely think it is disappointing, for the simple fact we are in a very tough position right now. The fact that the game was right there for us... It was from crucial turnovers we had and some key parts of the game we didn't get the job done. Defensively, I just don't think we really attacked them and we weren't as aggressive. He (Chancellor) said it best: they played a little harder than we did, and it looked like they wanted it more than we did."

Comets Forward Tina Thompson
"I think it was a lack of execution. We just didn't execute the game plan that we set out to do. I don't know if it was a memory lapse or the unfamiliarity of each other. It's been awhile since we have been together and our chemistry was a little off, but we got it going towards the end of the game. But I think we dug ourselves a little hole in the beginning, and that gave them a lot of momentum and a lot of confidence, and they didn't falter at all. We kept running at them and making runs, but they had some to counter and we didn't execute our offense."
