Lynx 59, Shock 58
The Palace at Auburn Hills

Recap | Box Score | Notes | Game Archive

Lynx Guard Helen Darling
"It got really ugly down the stretch and we made some mental mistakes, but the thing is that we never gave up; that is the one good thing about our team. Things just happened to fall our way tonight."

"I think it was very important [to get a win without Katie Smith]. But the thing was that we knew that we could win without Katie in the lineup. Of course she is a great player and it makes us better when she is on the floor, but we have been playing great defense without her in the lineup and we have gelled well as a team. We won two out of three games without Katie. When we beat San Antonio people said we won because San Antonio is the worst team statistically in the league, then we came in here and won, and we only lost a tough game in Seattle. So we proved ourselves, but of course it is much better with Katie in the lineup."

"I think this break is good for us as far as trying to get a little rest. The break is an opportunity for many; obviously, it is for Katie Smith because she is going to the Olympics, but other players as well because they can go back home and work on their games."

Shock Coach Bill Laimbeer
"I thought we were past our hurdles, but we are not. Missed free throws, turnovers, lack of execution and not having our entire team come to play. We are not good enough to overcome those things, and we keep doing them."

"We had some players that didn't want to show up and play hard tonight and they were already on vacation. We should have won the game; they are not a very good basketball team without Katie Smith, and we let them win. We continue to not do the little things. We won't get on the floor for loose balls, we will not hustle and execute on offense, we stand around too much, we miss free throws, we turn the ball over — and all those things have cost us these games."

Shock Guard Deanna Nolan
We just arenít focused enough. A t the end we missed a lot of layups and free throws. We came out in the second half with a little bit more energy than we had in the first half; we came back and pulled away a little bit and we let them back in. We just have to make stops when we need them and make the baskets too."
