Seimone Augustus, prolific scoring guard for the Minnesota Lynx, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the Ashley Rukes GLBT Pride Parade this Sunday, June 24. The parade begins at 11am and runs down Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis.

"It's flattering," said Augustus on being chosen. "It's a privilege and an honor, especially for a parade that is so significant because of everything that is going on with marriage and legalization. It's important, and I'll be out here celebrating with them."

As a Minnesota transplant, Augustus has been impressed by the Twin Cities area and their support towards the GLBT community.

"Being from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, you don't really see many celebrations like this down south. It's great to see how comfortable people are up here."

The parade is part of the Twin Cities Pride Festival, an event held in Loring Park that is now in its 40th year as one of the biggest GLBT celebrations in the nation. Click here for more information on the Twin Cities Pride Festival.
