Reading Time Out:
Bedtime Stories

The Lynx held a Read To Achieve event on Monday at Target Center. The Reading Time Out, presented by Select Comfort, was titled "Bedtime Stories." Fifty students from the Expo Discovery Club in St. Paul dressed in pajamas and gathered around a Sleep Number(R) Grand King bed to have bedtime stories read by Lynx center Vanessa Hayden.

Following the reading, the children participated in a craft project of tissue paper basketballs. Each child received a pillow courtesy of Select Comfort along with a Lynx reading pack.

In an effort to promote the importance of reading, online literacy and parent/child reading, the NBA, the WNBA, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Minnesota Lynx have developed a year-round program called Read to Achieve. The program, which targets children ages 6-11, includes monthly reading events (Reading Time Outs), a local and national All-Star Reading Team, the development or refurbishing of reading centers, local book donations, public service announcements, interactive website activities and in-arena promotions.
