On the heels of the Minnesota Lynx Foundation's annual fundraiser Lynx GO Pink, players Nicky Anosike, Charde Houston, Navonda Moore and Noelle Quinn continued their quest to spread breast cancer awareness, participating in two breast cancer fundraisers Thursday.
Thursday kicked off with Houston and Moore attending The American Cancer Society's Kick-Off Breakfast for “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer," its annual walk to raise money in the fight against breast cancer.
The kick-off breakfast was held at the Mall of America and provided Houston and Moore a chance to further demonstrate their passion for combating breast cancer. "Breast cancer is a cause near and dear to both the WNBA and the Lynx," exclaimed Houston. "It's important for us to show our support and be a part in fighting this disease."
The highlight of the event came just prior to the conclusion of the event when Houston and Moore exuberantly announced that the Lynx players would be participating in this year's walk. The Lynx will join the more than 500,000 walkers across the country each year that partake in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Last year, the fundraiser collected more than $50 million to help fight breast cancer.
Not to be outdone, Nicky Anosike and Noelle Quinn got into the act Thursday night, attending The Breast Cancer Awareness Association's annual fundraiser, The Breast Party in Town.
The event, designed to raise money for the Breast Cancer Awareness Association's 7th Annual Conference, Living with Breast Cancer aims to inform participants about breast cancer prevention, treatment and survivorship for those affected by breast cancer.
Anosike and Quinn auctioned off a Lynx team-autographed ball that netted $1,000 for the BCAA.
"It's great to see the support surrounding breast cancer and the awareness being generated from events such as this," said Anosike. "I am glad that they Lynx are able to be a part of such an important cause."
The "33 Days of Augustus" continues on Saturday with the inaugural Lynx Beach Volleyball Tournament at Minneapolis' Theodore Wirth Park.
