Read to Achieve
The WNBA and the Minnesota Lynx have partnered to implement Read to Achieve, a year-round literacy program to help young people develop a life-long love for reading and to encourage adults to read regularly with children. Reaching an estimated 50 million children per year, Read to Achieve is the most extensive educational outreach initiative in the history of professional sports. Locally, the program consists of an All-Star Reading Team, Reading Time Outs, the Starting Five at-home reading incentive program, the refurbishment and creation of reading centers and book donations.
Lunch Learners
The Lynx Players and Coaches have combined their efforts to create the Lunch Learners program. Lunch Learners gives middle school students the opportunity to dine in an upscale restaurant while learning fine dining etiquette from Lynx players and staff. The dining experience is a reward for students who have met certain goals. Hosted this year at the Melting Pot, the luncheons will be held several times during the 2007 season.
