Lynx players continued the "33 Days of Augustus" with stops at Youthlink Life Transitions Education Services Center, People Serving People and the Lynx Front Office.
With the entire Lynx Squad - minus Olympian Seimone Augustus - back in Minneapolis, the "33 Days of Augustus" is in full swing this week. The players' stops included a Youthlink Life Transitions Education Services Center appearance, a People Serving People outing and a memorable trip to the Lynx Front Office for rookies Candice Wiggins and Charde Houston.
Kristen Rasmussen and Vanessa Hayden kicked off this week's festivities Tuesday by paying a visit to Youthlink Life Transitions Education Services Center. The Life Transitions program aims to help children ages 16-20 plan for the future through making important connections to education and career planning. It was those important touch-points that Hayden-Johnson and Rasmussen tried to instill in the youth in their short visit.
"I enjoyed interacting with the young women and men there," said Hayden-Johnson. "The human spirit is a resilient one and it showed with these youth. No matter their circumstances they are determined to succeed and that, with the help of this program, is why this visit was a blessing to me."
Rasmussen and Hayden-Johnson concluded the night with autographs and took pictures to ensure this memorable night for all would not be soon forgotten.
The events continued into Wednesday, with Candice Wiggins and Charde Houston getting a first-hand look at the business side of the Lynx. The players surprised some unsuspecting current Lynx Partial Package Holders and Full Season Ticket Holders by personally calling them. Wiggins and Houston spoke to the fans about their fan experience this season and encouraged them to come back for next year.
"It was fun to talk to the fans and hear about their thoughts on the season. Everyone I spoke with said they are coming back next year. It was fun to experience a different part of the organization."
The fun didn't stop at Target Center for Wiggins and Houston as they joined Navonda Moore, Nicky Anosike and Noelle Quinn at People Serving People in Minneapolis Wednesday night. There the players donated their time to families in need by serving dinner to the community's homeless and even built a few lasting relationships along the way.
"I love coming to People Serving People," said Noelle Quinn. "It's always a wonderful experience to help out people in need in the community."
Quinn and company will stay busy the rest of the week. Other events this week include trips to the Minnesota Zoo and Mall of America Thursday and the inaugural Lynx Beach Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
