Liberty Helps Celebrate National YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day
On Saturday, April 14th New York Liberty's Athletic Trainer, Lisa White, went
to the Tarrytown YMCA to show their 10-12 year old Girls Basketball Team a typical
Liberty workout.
The YMCA's Healthy Kids Day is a free, fun-filled day of activities designed
to promote healthy kids and families in spirit, mind and body. YMCA Healthy
Kids Day events celebrate making fitness fun and introduce kids to an array
of YMCA programs that teach healthy behaviors and healthy ways to play and take
care of themselves throughout their lifetimes.
Lisa tipped of the event by sharing the rich history of the Liberty and the
WNBA. Then she got down to business and the workout began starting with stretching,
just like the Liberty would. She talked about the different muscles and the
benefits of stretching. The real fun began when Lisa showed the girls what the
Liberty players do to work on their foot speed and agility, which are essential
in basketball. They performed footwork drills using agility ladders.
Lisa ended the day with a trivia session and gave the kids a chance to win
Liberty gear!
