Liberty Training Camp Update with Sherill Baker
Today, we're talking to Liberty guard Sherill Baker. In the 2006 campaign, Baker played in all 34 games and averaged 7.4 points. She ended her rookie season ranked 16th in steals (46.0) and 18th in steals per game (1.4). She hit her season and career high early on in the season, posting 18 against the defending WNBA Champion Detroit Shock.
How do you feel after surviving the first week of Camp?
I feel like I’ve been doing well out there. I’m in a lot better shape than I was last year at this point. I knew what to expect this time around, having gone through this all last year as a rookie.
Do you think the scrimmages are helping the team get to know each other more?
Definitely. We’re doing very well as a team right now. The scrimmages are helping us come together. Everyone’s getting up and down the court really well and we’re working on improving certain game situations. It’s been a good time so far.
What did you do in the off-season to prepare for Camp?
I spent four to five months playing in Italy. It was a good experience, I felt like I was playing well out there to be a better player. When I came back, I worked out with a personal trainer, with both weights and time in the gym to improve my game.
How have you been spending your downtime?
Sleeping … and eating healthy.
Are you working on anything in particular at camp with your coaches?
Every morning before practice I’ve been working on my shooting. I’ll shoot around with Ashley Battle.
