Highlight Reel: First win of the 2009 season ... Liberty snapped five game losing streak against the Silver Stars for first victory in the all-time regular season series since June 10, 2006 and first on the Garden floor since June 21, 2005.

After going up nine points with just under seven minutes, New York used an 11-0 run to lead San Antonio 25-7 … Holding onto a 21-point lead, the Liberty headed into the break behind Shameka Christon's 10 points … To open the third frame, Janel McCarville connected on 14-foot jumper to give New York its largest lead of the night, 47-24 …  With just over two minutes left in the period, San Antonio cut its deficit to 14 points …. Although the Silver Stars out-scored its hosts in the final frame, it was not enough and New York earned the victory … McCarville scored 18 points, Christon had 15 and Essence Carson added 12.

July 19: Atlanta 86, New York 89
Madison Square Garden

Highlight Reel: Third consecutive win of the season over the Dream, having claimed victory on June 21 in Atlanta and just a week prior in the Big Apple ... Heroic game winning shot from tri-captain Shameka Christon ... Christon scored her 2,000th career point en route to a career high 32 point peformance ... With the win, New York extended its all-time regular season series win streak over Atlanta to 6-0.

With the score tied at 84, Shameka Christon sunk a three-pointer at the top of the key with 20.7 seconds remaining, followed by a pair of free throws in the next possession to lift the Liberty over the Dream … New York mounted a large lead in the second period using a 21-4 run and headed into half-time up 17 points … The Liberty's lead diminished as the Dream scored 36 points in the third frame … Chamique Holdsclaw netted nine points during a 14-0 run to bring Atlanta within four points under three minute mark … Holdsclaw tied the game at 84 on the free throw line … Christon finished the game with a career-high 32 points for the hosts.


REGULAR SEASON GAME NO. 20
August 7: New York 84, Sacramento 66
Arco Arena

Highlight Reel: First win under interim head coach Anne Donovan ... Snapped a five-game skid for New York ... Season series wrapped at 1-1 ... First win for the Liberty in Sacramento since July 22, 2005.

Consistent shooting and tencious defense led to a 41-39 halftime lead for the Liberty … Janel McCarville netted 12 points in the half … Sacramento took its first lead of the game with 7:35 remaining in the third period on a steal and basket from Rebekkah Brunson to bring the score to 44-45 … New York pushed back and scored eight straight, including six points from Tiffany Jackson … The Liberty out-scored the hosts 26-14 in the frame behind the play of the reserves … Up 14 points heading into the fourth quarter, New York never looked back … McCarville finished with 18 points.

Highlight Reel: Second victory of the season's longest (five games) road trip of the season ... Third straight win for the Liberty at the Staples Center ... Concludes season series at 1-1 for the WNBA's oldest rivalry.

Essence Carson's driving lay-up with 20 seconds remaining secured a Liberty victory at the Staples Center … Trailing by four points at halftime, New York obtained its first lead of the second half on lay-up from Janel McCarville with just over six minutes left in the third quarter, making the score 43-41 … The Liberty continued to push the tempo behind the play of Loree Moore … Moore scored six of her 10 points in the third quarter and added two steals … With New York leading by as many as nine in the final frame, the Sparks used their free throws to stay in the game … Candace Parker's free throw with 36.9 remaining brought Los Angeles within two points, the closest it would ever get, as Carson sealed the game winning lay-up in the next trip down the floor … Shameka Christon finished with 11 points for the Liberty in the second win of the five game road trip.

August 21: Connecticut 83, New York 85 (OT)

Highlight Reel: Driving lay-up from tri-captain Janel McCarville to seal the victory for New York in overtime ... First ever regular season overtime game between New York and Connecticut in the all-time series history (the second would come just two weeks later) ... Liberty evens the season series at 1-1 ... Season high free throws made (23) from New York.

Janel McCarville's driving lay-up with 8.2 seconds remaining pushed the Liberty past the Sun in overtime … New York led by three points with 15.4 seconds left in regulation, until Anete Jekabsone-Zogota tied the game with a three pointer with 1.3 seconds remaining and sent the game into overtime … In overtime, Connecticut led 83-81 with just over two and a half minutes to go … Shameka Christon tied the game on a driving lay-up … Erin Phillips missed a three pointer in the Sun's next possession, which led to the Liberty's game winning play … New York built an 11-point first half lead and headed into the break on top 32-40 … Christon and McCarville combined for 45 points.
