The Off-Season In Review (Part I)

As play overseas halted for the joyous holiday season and our players headed stateside for some rest & relaxation, NYLiberty.com is looking back at the fall to see how they faired in the first half of their respective seasons.

The following is our breakdown of leaders amongst the Liberty through the top statistical categories (through December 2009).

SCORING

LEADER: Tiffany Jackson (Israel). In 10 league games, Jackson has been putting up some prime time numbers to average an amazing 20.1 points per game.

RUNNERS UP: Kia Vaughn (Israel), 17.1 points per game; Shameka Christon (Poland), 16.4 points per game.

REBOUNDS

LEADER: Kia Vaughn (Israel). The rookie from the Bronx has pulled down an impressive 11.6 rebounds per game in her first overseas adventure.

RUNNERS UP: Tiffany Jackson (Israel), 10.6 boards per game; leading for the guards, Essence Carson (France), 6.0 rebounds per game.

ASSISTS

LEADER: Leilani Mitchell (France). Mitchell takes this category hands down, as the little Lib is dishing out five assists per game in the French league.

RUNNERS UP: Janel McCarville (Russia), 3.0 assists per game in the Euroleague; Essence Carson (France), 3.0 assists per game in the French league.

LEADERS: Nicole Powell (Turkey) and Leilani Mitchell (France). We have a tie, as Powell and Mitchell each have snagged 2.3 steals per outing.

RUNNERS UP: Essence Carson (France), 2.2 steals per game.

FIELD GOAL SHOOTING
 

LEADERS: Leilani Mitchell (France) and Kia Vaughn (Israel). The best shooting performance of the guards comes via Mitchell, with a .529 shooting percentage from the field. Vaughn leads the way for the post players shooting .622-percent from the field.

RUNNERS UP: Janel McCarville (Russia), .614; Tiffany Jackson (Israel), .535; Sidney Spencer (Poland), .510; Shameka Christon (Poland), .448.

3-PT FIELD GOAL SHOOTING

LEADER: Nicole Powell (Turkey). It seems Powell hasn't missed a step, coming off her best season as a pro. The sharp shooter is gunning .600-percent from behind the arc in Turkish league action.

RUNNERS UP: Shameka Christon (Poland), .545; Cathrine Kraayeveld (Czech Republic), .533.

FREE THROW SHOOTING

LEADER: Sidney Spencer (Poland). Spencer has connected on all 10 of her free throw attempts through the first half of the season for a perfect charity stripe shooting percentage.

RUNNERS UP: Leilani Mitchell (France), .903; Cathrine Kraayeveld (Czech Republic), .900.

TEAM RECORD
   
ALL TIED UP: Sidney Spencer, Nicole Powell, Kia Vaughn and Janel McCarville's clubs all own undefeated records in their respective leagues. Spencer's Gorzow is dominating the Polish league with a 14-0 record. Powell's Fenerbahce is holding onto a 9-0 record in Turkish league action. Vaughn's Electra Ramat owns a perfect 10-0 Israeli league record. McCarville's Spartak Moscow has not dropped a single game in Group D play and boasts a 7-0 record.
