When Science And Sport Collide

Sure, science was never really their favorite subjects in school, but that didn't stop Liberty guards Lisa Willis and Leilani Mitchell from jumping at the chance to be a part of New York City's first annual World Science Festival on Saturday, May 31.

The Festival was an unprecedented celebration of scientific discovery that took place from May 28 through June 1 at 15 venues throughout Manhattan. Not only did it garner the likes of the Liberty, but it also brought together over a dozen Nobel Laureates, leading researchers, top-level technologists, dedicated educators, and high-level policy makers with creative artists, filmmakers, and performers to create more than 40 unique events that shined a spotlight on science and explored the many ways in which scientific discovery and innovation are shaping modern life.

In front of a packed gymnasium at New York University's Coles Sports Center, Willis and Mitchell joined Los Angeles Clippers' Brevin Knight in a Science and Sport demonstration, teaching youngsters about the importance of nutrition, hydration, concentration and exercise when being an athlete. A number of scientists and athletic trainers were on hand to lead the demonstration, while the trio of professional athletes served as test subjects.
