Overseas Update - 2/14

In France this weekend, Leilani Mitchell’s team, Arras Pays d’Artois lost their matchup in French league play to Lattes Montpellier 52-61. Leilani contributed 11 points and 5 assists in 36 minutes of play. She is currently averaging 12.6 pts, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.

Essence Carson returned to play this week in Hungary following a short break to heal a minor injury. Essence’s team, SEAT Lami Ved Gyor, defeated Szolnok 91-75 in Hungarian league play to advance to 18-3. In 30 minutes of play, Essence scored 18 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.

In Italy, Janel McCarville and her team Famila Schio were busy this past week with Euroleague and Italian league play. In the Euroleague, Schio was able to tie up the Eighth-final playoff series with Spartak MR by pulling out a win at home, 66-64. Janel scored 11 points and pulled in 9 boards in the win. In game 3 Schio fell to Spartak MR 63-69 in the deciding game of a 3 game series. Janel contributed 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 steals in the loss. In Italian league play Schio won big against Faenza. Janel had 14 points and 18 rebounds in the 83-41 win.

Also in Italy, Sidney Spencer and her team, Priolo, lost a close game 60-62 to Basket Parma. Sidney scored 18 points and pulled in 7 rebounds in 35 minutes of play. Sidney is currently averaging 11.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in Italian league play.

Kia Vaughn and her team, Elitzur Ramla, came up with a big win in Israel this week. Ramla defeated H.R. Le-Zion 103-67. Kia scored 27 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 36 minutes of play. Ramla currently holds the top spot in Israel. Since going overseas in January, Kia is averaging 20.1 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocked shots.

After switching teams in Poland following the winter break, Kalana Greene’s team CCC Polkwice advanced to 18-2 and holding their position at second in the Polish league. CCC Polkwice defeated Utex Row 76-49. Greene is averaging 10.8 points and 2.8 rebounds with her new team.

Also in Poland, Nicole Powell and first place Wisla Can-Pack have been busy in Euroleague play. After defeating Nadezhda Orenberg (Russia) to advance to the quarterfinals, Wisla now faces Halcon Avenida (Spain). That series will begin on February 22 in Krakow. Nicole is currently averaging 15.8 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in both Polish league and Euroleague play.

In Russia, Cappie Pondexter and UMMC Ekaterinburg continue to lead the Russian league at 14-0. UMMC defeated Dynamo-GUVD 69-54. UMMC will face Spartak SP in the upcoming week.

In Turkey, Plenette Pierson and Tarsus BLD defeated Ceyhan BLD. Plenette put up 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals in the close 84-83 win. Plenette is currently averaging 28.9 points and 8.4 rebounds in Turkish league play.

Also in Russia, Taj McWilliams- Franklin and her team Spartak MR defeated Spartak N 93-60. Taj and Spartak MR were also busy this week advancing to the Euroleague quarterfinals by defeating Famila Schio 2-1 in a three-game series. In game two Taj contributed 11 points and 11 boards and in game three she added 14 points and 9 rebounds. Spartak MR will now face Fenerbahce (Turkey) in the quarterfinals on February 22.
