Sunday's Season Opener Packed With Fun For Fans

NEW YORK, NY -- May 12 -- The New York Liberty, a charter member of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), will open their 14th season on Sunday, May 16 at 4:00 p.m. at Madison Square Garden. Led by head coach and Hall of Famer Anne Donovan, Liberty stars Cappie Pondexter, Janel McCarville, Taj McWilliams-Franklin and Nicole Powell will tip-off the season against WNBA All-Star Sylvia Fowles and the Chicago Sky.

The afternoon will be packed with a line-up of entertainment for fans beginning at 12:00 p.m. in front of The Garden. The interactive Fan Festival will offer the chance for fans to win prizes and tickets, compete in contests and games on a sport court, and interact with mascot Maddie, the Liberty Torch Patrol, and the 7th Avenue Squad.

The excitement will continue into the Arena where a number of special guests will help the Liberty open their season. Michael Johns, a finalist from season seven of "American Idol" will perform the national anthem, and Syndee Winters of the national Broadway tour of "The Lion King" will sing a live rendition of the 2010 version of the Liberty's theme song, "Gotta Get Up." The Liberty's three co-ed cheer and dance teams, the Liberty Torch Patrol, Li'l Torches and Timeless Torches, along with Maddie will perform a special tribute to Lady Gaga at half-time.
