Off-Season Check-Up with Erin Thorn

Since the season ended, I have been catching up with family and friends. I love to visit my friend in Las Vegas just to hang out with her and relax a little. I have spent a couple weeks there since I’ve been back here in the west. I took a “summer vacation” to Hawaii when I got back too, that was a blast. I just returned from Southern Utah where we had a little family reunion, got together with all the cousins on the Thorn side of the family.

It hasn’t all been play for me though! I’ve been in the gym lifting weights and doing cardio, as well as playing pick-up games with guys at BYU. My body is healing from the bumps and bruises of the season. I’m working out at 24 Hour Fitness with my trainer, Steve Gewondjan, and plan on coming back next season in better shape and more healthy than ever.

Before I sign off, here are my answers to your questions. Thank you for sending them in! Hope all is well in the east. Take care and bundle up, winter is coming!

Erin

Who are your favorite teammates, and why?
Well I room with Shameka on road trips, so we are close. But I really get along with everybody on the team & enjoy hanging out with all of them.

What is your favorite part of coaching?
I love interacting with the college girls and being able to help them become better players.

One of the questions this year that was on Gardenvision was: how many text messages do you send a day. So my question is what kind of cell phone do you own?
I used to own a Palm Treo, but I switched over to a Sidekick 3, very texting friendly! :)

What is your favorite store to shop at?
I love shopping at TJ Maxx and any Mall (for the variety of stores).

Are there any "strange" pre-game rituals in your locker room?
If there are any crazy pre-game rituals, I have not noticed. We all have our different little routines, but nobody does anything crazy that I’ve been witness to.

How do you relax when you aren't playing or practicing?
I love a good movie and just hanging out with family and friends. I also love working out, it’s a good release.

Where did you grow up?
I have lived in Utah all my life, but have moved around from city to city.

Where do you live now?
I bought a townhouse in Utah about a year ago, so I live there during the off-season.

Are you going to be an asst coach with Coach Judkins again this year, or do you have other plans?
I am actually taking the year off and am planning on going overseas for 3 months or so. I love coaching and will return to it soon, but felt like the overseas thing would be good for me at this point.

I remembered last year when Becky was injured for that whole week of traveling and when you were injured this season, the team won the games. What did you think of that from last year to this year?
Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game. It is always hard to have somebody on your team get injured, but obviously more frustrating when it is you that is injured. You always want to be able to help your team out and to be incapable of that is hard. I’m just glad it wasn’t too serious and I was able to return and finish the season.

When you were little what did you wanna be when you grew up?
My dreams when I was little only extended to the college age where I wanted to play soccer for BYU. I never really thought much beyond that, just wanted to play sports forever, so I guess you could say my dreams are coming true.
