Liberty Earn First Pre-Season Win
The New York Liberty scored a victory in its first appearance this year at Madison Square Garden on Saturday afternoon, routing the Houston Comets 74-63, in a pre-season match-up. The Libertyís Cathrine Kraayeveld and the Cometís Michelle Snow led all scorers with 13 points each. Kraayeveld, grabbed a game-high seven rebounds, while dishing out five assists, and Shameka Christon added 11 points for New York. Sheryl Swoopes had eight points and six rebounds, while Rookie Ashley Shields came off the bench to contribute 12 points and four boards for the Comets.
New York led by as many as 13 in the first half, however Houston dominated the paint with 16 points and six rebounds to their six points and five rebounds. The Liberty scored its largest lead of the game in the final quarter, led by guard Loree Moore who scored four of her six points.
With a pre-season record of 0-2, the Comets will head back to Houston for its final exhibition game against the Connecticut Sun on Monday, May 14. The Liberty completed its pre-season with a 1-1 record and will tip-off its regular season on Sunday, May 20 at Madison Square Garden, when they host the Chicago Sky.
