Liberty Host Meet Your Seat Event At The Prudential Center
On Saturday, February 5th, New York Liberty fans attended the Meet Your Seat event held at the Prudential Center in Newark, their new home court for the next three seasons due to the transformation of Madison Square Garden. Fans in attendance had the opportunity to experience the state-of-the-art arena up close, sit in their prospective seats and purchase tickets for the 2011 season on the spot. The fans were also treated to an informational session that included presentations by Liberty Legend Kym Hampton, Knicks Legend John Starks, and Liberty Assistant Coach Monique Ambers.
Hampton, a pioneer of the WNBA and current Liberty staff member, stressed the importance of girls and boys having strong female role models to look up to. She shared that by attending games and seeing female professional athletes, children are inspired to set their goals high and model themselves after smart and successful women.
Starks, a popular shooting guard for the Knicks from 1990-1998, spoke of the excitement of the WNBA entering its 15th season, even when there were doubts about the viability of the league in the beginning. He expressed how impressed he has been by the elevation of play and competition in the women's game and how important it is to support the Liberty.
Ambers joined the Liberty staff after seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Sacramento Monarchs. She explained to fans how fun and exciting it will be to watch the fast-paced game the Liberty will implement this season. Ambers also spoke of the “white-line defense” that the team will play and how unstoppable it is when all five players on the court work together.
“I appreciated the team's orientation to the process and introduction to the notables. I thought Kym Hampton, Monique Ambers and John Starks were very personable and gracious with their time and attention to the fans," said Liberty fan Gary Stubbs.
The Liberty will host additional events like this one in the upcoming months and invite fans to email the team at email@example.com with any inquiries about tickets or the opportunity to secure a special appointment for a behind-the-scenes tour of the arena and ability to “test drive” new seats at Prudential Center.
