What was your immediate response to winning NY Liberty Season tickets?
I was shocked, totally shocked! I was like, what? Really? A lady from the Liberty staff called to let me know that I won and I was so excited! I kept saying, “Oh wow!” I actually called her back the next day and asked, “Was I dreaming? Did that happen?” (Laughs) I told my husband and he said, “Wow that’s great news!”

How will you choose who you will take to the Liberty games?
I’ll probably have to rotate between family and friends. I told my kids and they already asked, “Can I go?” It’ll probably be my daughter or my son or even my grandkids! My grandkids also said, “Grandma we want to go!” I have a friend or two I might take, as well. It will definitely be a rotation.

When did you become a Liberty fan?
I was a Liberty fan from the very beginning, when the league first started. I wanted to support the women and I love basketball. I used to play basketball in New York growing up.

Tell us about your basketball playing days!
I was the starting point guard for John Jay High School in New York City. I was one of the top players in New York and went on to play in college at Johnson C. Smith in North Carolina. Back then there weren’t as many sports opportunities for women. I wish I could have had a shot at playing more but the league came around a little late for me. I became a NYC police officer and retired a detective. I believe playing sports gave me the confidence I needed to work such a tough job.

What are you most excited about with this season’s team?
The new coach! I know Bill has won before… it may be our turn!

Who are your favorite players?
Cappie Pondexter, of course. You can always see her hustle and passion on the court. She is going to give it her all. You can see it in her face when she plays. I also like Essence Carson. Her former college coach at Rutgers University, C. Vivian Stringer, coached me when she was still coaching at Cheyney State College, early in her career. I feel that is our connection.

Who else are you curious to watch play?
The newcomers. We need some rebounding and consistent outside shots! The “Three to See”, Brittney Griner, Elena Delle Donne and Skylar Diggins, excite me, too.

Which opposing team do you want to see most?
Los Angeles, of course. I just want to “Beat LA!”

What do you hope is possible for this season’s Liberty team?
I hope that this new team with a new coach can come together and go even further in the playoffs… and maybe win it all!

These won’t be your first Liberty games, what makes going to a Liberty game special?
All the cheering, the fans, the excitement of the atmosphere and the feeling of supporting women is what’s fun. I want to see them win; I want to see the Liberty get one for New York!
