New York, April 3, 2002 -- New York Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager Carol Blazejowski announced today that the team has traded Rebecca Lobo to the Houston Comets in exchange for their 2002 2nd round draft pick, 26th overall.

Lobo, 28, was signed by the WNBA before the start of the Liberty's inaugural season in 1997. After starting every regular season game in 1997 and 1998, Lobo missed both the 1999 and 2000 seasons due to two torn anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) in her left knee.

In 1997, Lobo averaged 12.4 points per game while leading the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg), blocked shots (1.8 bpg) and minutes (33.5 mpg). In 1998, she averaged 11.7 points, and led the team with a .484 shooting percentage. In 2001, her first season back after the injury, Lobo appeared in 16 games off the bench, averaging 1.1 ppg. On August 10, she was placed on the injured reserve list.

"Rebecca is one of the founding members of the WNBA and she has been a great ambassador of the league and the New York Liberty," said Carol Blazejowski, Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager. "All of us at the Liberty thank Rebecca for all she has meant to the organization and wish her the best of luck in Houston."
