Liberty Face Mystics in Matinee Match-up on Thursday at Madison Square Garden
For the second consecutive season, New York will hold its “School Day” game on Thursday (May 24), and will feature a free lunch* for fans. Enjoy a hot dog, chips and soda on the Liberty when they host Nikki Teasley, Alana Beard and the Washington Mystics at The Garden beginning at 11:00 AM. Read on to get the skinny on this upcoming match-up.
ALL-TIME
The Liberty holds an all-time series advantage of 20-13 over the Mystics. The last time these two teams saw each other was the final game of the 2006 regular season when New York defeated Washington, 93-81, in The Garden.
SEASON BESTS
Three current Liberty players finished the 2006 campaign with season highs against the Mystics. In the last match-up vs. Washington:
Forward Shameka Christon grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 22 points.
Center Barb Farris dished out her season-high five assists.
Forward Cathrine Kraayeveld scored her season-high 22 points.
FAMILIAR FACES
The Mystics’ forward Crystal Robinson and head coach Richie Adubato are no strangers to New York City. Robinson spent six seasons in a Liberty uniform, while Adubato guided the Liberty to a 100-79 record in five seasons as head coach, including back-to-back Eastern Conference Championships in 1999 and 2000.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
The Long Ball: Led by guard Erin Thorn, the Liberty shot 65 percent from beyond-the-arc in its last outing against the Sky, while the Mystics shot 38.5 percent against the Sun on Saturday. New York tied a franchise record with 13 three-pointers for the night.
On the Glass: Both squads grabbed 33 rebounds in their season openers.
Dish It Out: New York dished out 17 assists on Sunday, led by guards Loree Moore and Erin Thorn, with four each. Teasley recorded a game-high seven assists for Washington against Connecticut.
