Liberty to Honor Former Great Sue Wicks on Hall of Fame Induction

NEW YORK, NY - June 19, 2013 - The New York Liberty (4-2) look to remain unbeaten at home when they host Becky Hammon and the San Antonio Silver Stars (2-4) on Sunday, June 23 at 3 p.m. at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Pride Day presented by Resorts World Casino, celebrates the LGBT community. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive trading cards featuring the 2013 New York Liberty. Tickets are still available by visiting nyliberty.com.

The Liberty will pay tribute to team legend Sue Wicks, a member of the Liberty Ring of Honor, for her induction into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2013. WNBA All-Star Cappie Pondexter, who wears Wicks’ former No. 23, will pay homage to the legend by donning a jersey that bares Wicks’ last name. In honor of both players, the Liberty will feature a special ticket offer - $23 ticket, plus access to a postgame Pride Day Mixer.

“I think it is well deserved,” said Pondexter. “Sue Wicks is a pioneer of women’s basketball and equality on and off the court. She was the most versatile player of her time, she could do it all. The fans here in New York love and embrace her and I think her being inducted into the Hall of Fame is well overdue.”

To benefit the Garden of Dreams Foundation, the No. 23 jersey will be autographed by both players following the game and auctioned-off at nyliberty.com. Other Liberty items available include courtside seats to a future home game and a private meet-and-greet with both Pondexter and Wicks.
