From The Garden to the Garden State

The New York Liberty are no strangers to New Jersey. Three players on their current roster, Cappie Pondexter, Essence Carson, and Kia Vaughn played their collegiate careers at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. For the next three seasons the entire team will become familiar with the Garden State and play their home games at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Maddie, the popular Liberty mascot, the Knicks Groove Truck presented by Boost Mobile and members of the Torch Patrol Dance Team entertained fans attending the semi-finals of the Bergen County Women’s Coaches Association 2011 Girls Basketball Tournaments held at Ramapo College throughout the day on Sunday, February 20, 2011. Attendees were also able to learn more about the upcoming season and received free giveaways.

In the first game of the day, #1 seed Immaculate Heart Academy defeated number #4 seed Ramapo. The final game of the day went into overtime with #3 Holy Angels coming up with the win over #2 Teaneck. During each game’s halftime, Maddie and the Torch Patrol put on a show for the excited crowds. The Liberty theme song was playing while the Torch Patrol performed acrobatic stunts and threw t-shirts to the screaming fans. All who attended were able to experience just a bit of the excitement that happens at all 18 home games with the Liberty.
