WNBA Draft History

Can you feel the Draft? We sure can from where we're standing.

On Thursday, April 9, the 2009 WNBA Draft, presented by adidas, will be held at 3 p.m. at the NBA Entertainment studios in Secaucus, N.J. ESPN2 will provide live coverage and analysis of the first round of the draft while ESPNU and NBA TV will broadcast the second and third rounds beginning at 4 p.m.

New York owns the No. 8 overall pick, along with a selection in the second round, the 21st overall pick. Take a gander with us, at some of the numbers you may or may not know from the past 12 years of the Draft.

9 - Number of Top 10 picks for the Liberty in the past 12 WNBA Drafts.

7 - Number of current Liberty players who were originally drafted in the Top 10. Amongst those seven are Shameka Christon (5th, 2004), Loree Moore (10th, 2005), Janel McCarville (1st, 2005 by Charlotte), Lisa Willis (5th, 2006 by Los Angeles), Jessica Davenport (2nd, 2007 by San Antonio), Tiffany Jackson (5th, 2007) and Essence Carson (7th, 2008).

7 - Also is the number of active WNBA players originally drafted by the Liberty. Of those seven, the Silver Stars' Vickie Johnson (12th, 1997), the Sun's Tamika Whitmore (30th, 1999), the Sky's KB Sharp (26th, 2003), the Sky's Cathy Joens (30th, 2004), the Silver Stars' Ann Wauters (4th, 2004 Dispersal), the Sky's Erin Thorn (17th, 2003) and the Fever's Sherill Baker (12th, 2006).

4 - Number of fourth round picks the Liberty have made in its history. They came in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2002.

2 - Number of franchise picks in the 1997 Elite Draft. The Liberty selected Kym Hampton fourth overall and Vickie Johnson as the 12th overall.

1 - Number of times New York has ever selected 8th overall in the history of the WNBA Draft (Hint : It won't happen until April 9, 2009).
