jean genie, london: Hi, what do you think will be the biggest adjustment you have to make in becoming a professional basketball player?
Shameka Christon: The physicality of the game. Although I played in a tough, physical conference, the WNBA will be even tougher. I think the WNBA will also be much quicker.
Ben (New YorK): Hey Shameka, where were you and what were your emotions when your name got called on draft day?
Shameka Christon: I was in Secaucus, NJ at the Draft site. My emotions were I was anxious as first, because I didn't know when I'd be picked and how long I would be sitting there. But then when New York selected me, I was very happy.
Tina (New York): Were you expecting to be a first round pick?
Shameka Christon: I was expecting to go in the first round, but I didn't think I would go that high. My college team didn't have a great year, so I thought the WNBA scouts and coaches might forget about me. But I went to the draft camp to showcase my talents and I think that really helped.
Danielle (NY): What skills will you bring to the Liberty? Are you more of an offensive, defensive, or all around player?
Shameka Christon: I think the offensive part will come easier to me. On this level the pace will be faster and the intensity it very high, but I think I can adjust and bring offense to the team.
Maria (NYC): Hey Shameka, How have you adjusted to NYC so far?
Shameka Christon: So far, it's been great. I haven't had any problems. I'm far from home, I'm from Arkansas, I'm a country girl at heart, and there are lots and lots of people here, but it's been real nice so far.
Paul (NYC): What are your expectations when you step onto the court for your first WNBA game?
Shameka Christon: My expectation is to play within myself. I don't want to get over-excited or over-anxious. I just want to do what I can to do my part to help us win games. That's what I'm hoping to do in my first game and all season.
Ryan F. (Tiburon, CA): Hi Meka! I can't wait to see you play! What are some of your favorite things to do in NYC now that you've been there for a while? Did you have a favorite Liberty Moment or player when you were watching their games from Arkansas?
Shameka Christon: As far as my favorite thing to do in NYC, I haven't had a chance to do much, I've been focusing on training camp. One of my favorite players was Teresa Weatherspoon and Tari Phillips too.
Teco/Cincinnati: Congrats on being drafted by my favorite team!!....What Team do you look forward to facing the most I Love the Liberty vs Comets rivalry and now LA & NY
Shameka Christon: I'd have to say, actually the Houston Comets. I've been compared to Sheryl Swoopes so much, and I was lucky enough to play against her in an All-Star Game, so I'd have to say the Houston Comets.
Lisa (Bronx, NY): Hi Shameka, I am a season ticket holder and can not wait to see you play!! Now with the departure of Tameka Whitmore, do you feel you will be given a bigger role with the team and maybe even crack the starting line up?? Best of Luck.
Shameka Christon: I think so. With Whitmore and Weatherspoon leaving, not just me, but everyone will need to step up. The chance and the honor to start for this team will come if I do my best and improve and earn the spot.
Bob, Arkansas: From Hot Springs to Fayetteville to New York...when you were in the process of dominating Arkansas high school basketball, did you ever imagine you would be selected in the first round of the WNBA draft? Thanks for four terrific years at Arkansas. Several people, including myself, know you are the greatest player in Lady Razorback history and you will be missed!!!!
Shameka Christon: No, I didn't have a clue when I was in high school. I never thought that. It didn't hit me until my sophomore year in college that maybe I could make it to the WNBA.
china girl, new york: What do you think about the chance to play in Radio City Music Hall? Have you ever been there before to see a show?
Shameka Christon: I have not been there before. I've always heard great things about it. I don't know what to expect, it will be exciting. I must say, I am even more excited about playing in Madison Square Garden. It is such a great place, I am really looking forward to playing in the Garden.
angie, manhattan: What do you think is the best way to keep sharp during the Olympic Break? Should you just relax and then a few weeks before the season re-starts start getting back into shape, or just keep ready the entire time?
Shameka Christon: Keep ready the whole time. I will be working out with our strength and conditioning coach. I don't think it's a good idea to get out of game shape.
K-Dub (Fayettevill): Meka, By the time you're doing your chat, I'll be in Vegas! However, I'll be anxious to see the questions and answers when I get back in town. How are practices and workouts different from college? Good luck this season!
Shameka Christon: Practice in the WNBA is alot more intense. You get away with a lot more. It's way more physical and fast-paced. (K-Dub, works for the Lady Razorbacks' staff)
sweet jane, nyc: Hey, how do you feel to be playing with Becky Hammon? Do you think the Liberty can beat out Detroit in the East?
Shameka Christon: Becky Hammon to me is a phenomonal player. She has no limits to what she can do. I'm grateful to be playing with her. I also think the Liberty can beat Detroit.
Shameka Christon: Thank you for this opportunity to chat, and all the support from the fans. I am looking forward to helping the Liberty become the best team in the WNBA and I hope you'll continue to support us, and come out to our games. GO LIBERTY!

Draft Day: Christon signs for fans.
