Battle & Bowen Sign New Contracts

NEW YORK, N.Y. [March 6] – New York Liberty President & General Manager Carol Blazejowski announced today that guard Ashley Battle has signed a new two-year contract and guard Lindsay Bowen has signed a Training Camp contract. As per team policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Battle recorded her best averages as a professional in 2007 with 7.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. As the Liberty’s leading scorer off the bench last season, she appeared in all 34 games and led the team in scoring three times and rebounding once.

The 2008 season will be Battle’s third season in New York and fourth overall in the league. She was signed as a free agent by the Liberty in 2006. Battle is currently playing overseas for Club Baloncesto San Jose in Spain, averaging 7.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 23.2 minutes per game.

Bowen made her WNBA debut in 2007 with the Liberty, appearing in six games. In her first career start, she netted six points in 17 minutes against the San Antonio Silver Stars on June 22, 2007. Bowen was a member of the Michigan State University women’s basketball squad which made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament across her collegiate career (2002-2006), including the 2005 NCAA championship game.

Bowen was signed as a free agent by New York in April of last year. Presently, she is posting 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game for Gospic in Croatia.
