Thorn and Battle Re-Sign with Liberty

NEW YORK, March 6, 2007 – The New York Liberty has signed guard Erin Thorn and forward Ashley Battle for the 2007 WNBA season. Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager Carol Blazejowski made the announcement today.

The 2007 season will be Thorn’s fifth in the WNBA and with the Liberty. The 5’10” Brigham Young University alumna was originally selected in the second round (17th overall) of the 2003 WNBA Draft. In 27 regular season games for the Liberty in 2006, Thorn averaged 3.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game. Her .431 three-point shooting percentage was first in the WNBA last season. For her career, Thorn has averaged 3.4 points in 10.4 minutes.

“We are very pleased to have Erin and Ashley returning for the 2007 Liberty season,” said Blazejowski. “These two players provided considerable spark off the bench to help the team amass seven wins in the final 10 games last season, and we look forward to their continued contributions as we work towards our goal of bringing a championship to New York.”

The 6’0” Battle will be entering her second season with the Liberty. The Seattle Storm drafted Battle from the University of Connecticut with the 25th overall pick in 2005. She appeared in two games for the team before being waived and New York signed Battle as a free agent in February 2006. In her first season with the Liberty, Battle averaged 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 33 games.

As per team policy conditions of the contracts were not released.
