Liberty Sign Smith

New York, NY - July 26, 2005 -The New York Liberty has signed Jennifer Smith for the remainder of the 2005 WNBA season. The announcement was made today by New York Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager Carol Blazejowski.

Smith, a 6’4” center out of the University of Michigan, has been playing overseas in Slovakia with team Delta Icp Kosice, where she averaged 15.6 points per game along with six rebounds in 32.3 minutes per game. She is a 2004 graduate of the University of Michigan, where she finished second on the career scoring list (1,714 points) and sixth on the career rebounding list (761). In addition, she is second on Michigan’s career list for field goal percentage (.512). Smith averaged 14.8 ppg and 6.6 rpg over her four years at UM.

During her senior season, the Lansing, Michigan native became the first-ever Wolverine to win the Big Ten scoring crown (21.3 ppg), while also being named to the All-Big Ten First Team. Smith was also Michigan's all-time single-season scoring leader (659 points) in 2003-2004.
