New York, NY - August 5, 2009 - Legends of the Rucker Park Pro League will be honored at a ceremony during halftime of the New York Liberty vs. Chicago Sky game on Friday, August 14 at Madison Square Garden. The evening will celebrate the rich history of the Rucker Pro League and the Madison Square Garden players & management who have participated since its inception in 1965. New York Liberty, President and General Manager, Carol Blazejowski, New York Knicks President, Basketball Operations, Donnie Walsh, and New York Knicks Director, Special Projects and Community Relations Representative, Cal Ramsey will be honored for their achievements at Rucker Park.

"Having played at the Rucker League, I have a great deal of pride knowing that I was able to share the same court with so many legends - including Madison Square Garden's own Carol Blazejowski, Cal Ramsey and a host of others," said Walsh.

The Rucker Pro League is a New York City basketball institution that was founded by Bob McCullough (a 1965 Cincinnati Royals draftee out of Benedict) and former Knick Fred Crawford, who continued the legacy of the Rucker League created by Holcombe Rucker in 1950. Garden and NBA legends such as Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, Bill Bradley, Wilt Chamberlain, Tom "Satch" Sanders, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Julius Erving played at the Holcombe Rucker Park's "hallowed ground" courts located at 155th Street and Frederick Douglas Boulevard in Harlem over the years.

In advance of the Liberty halftime ceremony, the Rucker Pro Legends will honor former New York Knicks at their Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, August 8 at noon at Rucker Park. Also, the Rucker Pro Legends will host the "Each One, Teach One" Golden Hoops Classic at Rucker Park at 2 p.m. "Each One, Teach One", is a non-profit organization that uses sports as a vehicle to promote higher education. Knicks and Liberty greats John Starks, Anthony Mason and Kym Hampton will be joined by the Knicks City Dancers and Liberty mascot Maddie to celebrate the August 8 & 9th festivities.
