Liberty Stars in Israel Named to Round 14 First Team
Christon has been having a stellar Israeli League season, ranking seventh among players in points per game at 18.5 and fourth in three-point percentage at 47%. Christon is also grabbing 7.4 rebounds per game and two steals per game.
Robinson, who ranks eighth in the league with a 41% three-point percentage, is also averaging 15 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. She shares First Team honors with Shira Haelyon, Chanel Wright-Greene and Gwen Jackson.
Led by Christon and Robinson, Ramla recently won its seventh consecutive game vs. Ramat Hasharon, 83-66.
A battle between the defending champions, Ramla, and the current first place team, Ramat Hasharon, was tight throughout the first three quarters. During a fast-paced first quarter, both teams traded baskets as the end with both teams tied at 25. Ramat Hasharon dominated the second quarter as Ramla lost their offensive spark, and took their biggest lead of the game 34-27. But, Ramla showed some bite and fought back with their zone defensive attack and a clutch three-pointer by Robinson. Ramla took a 41-40 lead into the second half. No time was wasted in the second half of the game as Ramala took control in the third quarter and began to run away with the game in the fourth. Following three tight quarters, Ramla outscored Ramat Hasharon by 15 points in the fourth to remain on top.
Crystal Robinson led all scorers with 27 points and nine rebounds. Shameka Christon finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists.
“We were very motivated," said Christon after the game. "They beat us by 22 the last time. Early in the season we didn’t have as much chemistry. I have a lot of respect for that club and they’re a great team, but we played hard.”
Despite the loss, Ramat Hasharon sits atop the standings with a 13-2 record. Ramla is close behind in second place at 12-3. With these two teams battling it out for the top spot, each game down the stretch will be important. Finishing the season in first place will guarantee home court advantage for one of these teams. Ramla and Ramat Hasharon will see each other again soon, especially when it will come down to fighting for the Israeli Cup Championship.
