Liberty Adds Veteran Farris

New York, NY - February 27, 2006 - The New York Liberty has signed unrestricted free agent Barbara Farris for the 2006 WNBA season. Carol Blazejowski, Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager, made the announcement today.

Farris is a six-year WNBA veteran, having spent the duration of her career with the Detroit Shock. The 6’3” center has appeared in 171 career games, and has posted 3.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15.4 minutes per game. She appeared in 13 playoff contests for the Shock and was a member of Detroit’s 2003 WNBA Championship team.

“We are pleased to add a player of Barbara’s caliber to the Liberty,” said Blazejowski. “She will be a big, strong, physical inside presence for our team, bringing not only veteran leadership but championship experience as well.”

Farris is currently playing professionally overseas in France for Saint Amand les Eaux. She is averaging 11.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in 33.3 minutes of action in three games.

A 1998 graduate of Tulane, Farris played in 118 games for the Green Wave, averaging 14.7 points and 8.0 rebounds. She was named to the All-Conference USA First Team in 1997 and the Second Team in 1998.

As per team policy conditions of the contract were not released.
