Liberty Rolls Out 2009 Regular Season Schedule
Returning from an Eastern Conference title run, the Liberty, with stars Shameka Christon and Janel McCarville, will tip-off the season at home for the fifth time in franchise history with a re-match of the 2008 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, June 7 at 4:00 p.m.
“With the 2009 season on the horizon, the Liberty remains exceptionally focused on our goal of bringing the WNBA Championship to the city of New York,” said Carol Blazejowski, President and General Manager. “We look forward to providing the most passionate fans in the WNBA with the competitive basketball and fun-filled atmosphere that has made the Liberty experience so unique for the past 12 years.”
Some highlights of the season include Bill Laimbeer and the defending WNBA Champion Detroit Shock making their only regular season visit to New York on Thursday, July 2. Candace Parker, Lisa Leslie and the Los Angeles Sparks will travel to The World’s Most Famous Arena on Thursday, July 9. In consecutive match-ups, the Liberty will host Rutgers alumna Cappie Pondexter and the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, July 26, followed by Matee Ajavon and the Washington Mystics on Thursday, July 30. Sue Bird will return to her native New York on Tuesday, September 1 with the Seattle Storm.
The Liberty is scheduled to be featured in two nationally televised games on ESPN2 next summer, that includes the August 4th game at Detroit and the August 11th game at Los Angeles.
