2007 In Review: Cathrine Kraayeveld

The summer came and went, but not without plenty of excitement from the 2007 Liberty. Through the up’s and down’s, it was a great season for the young squad to get some experience in the quicker, bigger, stronger WNBA.

As players begin to part ways en route to off-season endeavors, NYLiberty.com is handing in its season homework – a final report, which takes a look back at how each member of the team faired this summer. Today’s chapter of the report looks at forward Cathrine Kraayeveld.

A NEW START
In 2007, Kraayeveld became a staple in New York’s starting line-up … Before this season, she had only 13 career starts to her name … She turned in perfect starting attendance (34 of 34) this summer and was the only regular starter to do so … In the team’s 5-0 start to the season, she averaged 14.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

SHOOTING STAR
One area of Kraayeveld’s game that stood out most was her shooting … She finished the 2007 campaign as the 8th leading scorer in the League for three-pointers and was the Liberty’s leading gunner at .411 percent … Kraayeveld was the team’s second leading scorer, averaging 10.8 points per game in the regular season.

GETTING BOARD
Kraayeveld’s 4.5 boards per game this season made her the team’s second highest rebounder (with Shameka Christon) and earned her a spot amongst the League’s Top 20 leaders … Her 13 rebound performance against the Phoenix Mercury on June 3rd was a season-high for the Liberty and an individual career high … It also earned her a place in franchise history for single game bests.

POST-SEASON PLAY
Kraayeveld was one of the four Liberty players who had experienced the WNBA Playoffs before this season’s squad entered the post-season … Against the Shock in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, she averaged 28.5 minutes, 12.7 points and 6.0 rebounds … The last time Kraayeveld and the Liberty made a Playoff appearance, she was averaging 4.0 points in 18.5 minutes.

MAKING HER MARK
In addition to her 13 rebounds earlier in the season, a 31-point performance on July 20th against the Houston Comets earned Kraayeveld the No. 2 spot on the all-time franchise leaderboard for most points in a single game.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Pat Coyle on Kraayeveld:
“You can’t imagine how hard that kid works. She’s in the gym constantly. So, am I surprised that she’s having the success that she’s having? No, I’m not – because of how hard she works.”
